My Favorite Nintendo 64 Games

If anyone is a true gamer, you have played on a Nintendo 64 system at some point in your life. This system was my first gaming system that I ever owned (I was born in the 90’s!), and when I received it on Christmas morning, I also received Mario Kart with it! Mario Kart was the first video game that I ever played. I absolutely LOVED my Nintendo 64 growing up and I thought it was so cool that you could play with up to four people! During birthdays or sleepovers, I always made sure to break out the Nintendo 64 system and fire up a game to play with my friends and family. Below, I have compiled a short list of some of my FAVORITE games to play when this system was popular.

This game was probably my absolute favorite to play. I loved the story progression and it was just so much fun to play! I remember hours of fun and frustration while playing this game.

I really loved playing any games with Mario, as you can tell! I loved this game for its puzzles, levels, story and challenge.

supermario64Ah, memories!

This game was SO much fun to play with friends! There are multiple racetracks to race on, many different game types and you can use “special abilities” to throw your opponents off course with bombs, bananas, turtle shells and speed boosts! You can play as Mario, Peach, Luigi, Toad, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Wario, and Yoshi!

This game was such a blast. You can “duke it out” with other players, just as the title of the game says! You can have a team of 1vs1 or 2vs2, you can play against bots or friends-whatever you prefer!

gale01-59You can play as Bowser, Luigi, Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Captain Falcon, Yoshi, Kirby, Pikachu, Peach and so much more!I absolutely loved the diversity of players you could choose from! There are 25 characters that each have their own special moves and abilities. This original version of super smash bros is WAY better than the Wii version!

There is so much to do in this game, which is why I loved it so much! Not only can you battle against another pokemon trainer or a friend, but there are also really fun mini games to play as well!

In this mini game, you can play as a Lickitung and eat different types of sushi. Each sushi is worth different amounts of points and you have to eat a piece of sushi by timing the rotating table perfectly.

ps02
In this mini game you play as either Pikachu or Voltorb. You have to click either the blue or green button on your controller to “charge” your character up. Whoever charges the fastest, wins!

I actually didn’t play much of Donkey Kong, unfortunately! I didn’t own the game, but most of my friends did. Whenever I would visit, I would play Donkey Kong. I seriously loved this game! I really want to purchase a new Nintendo 64 system just to play this game again.

I also didn’t get to play this game that much, but it still falls into my favorites! I had a friend that owned it and anytime I would stay the night at her house, we would stay up all night playing it! I remember it being so bright and colorful, but also a 2d game.

So that’s it for my favorite Nintendo 64 games! I hope you enjoyed this list and it brought back a feeling of nostalgia when you read it. Perhaps now you want to go out and buy a new Nintendo 64 and replay these games (like me!), or maybe try out new ones that you’ve never heard of! Comment below some of your favorites and maybe I’ll purchase it and play it! Happy nerding!

  1. I loved Kirby Crystal Shards! You were able to inhale other creatures and take their power like in most Kirby games, but then you could also combine powers to become a bunch of really funny things (like a fridge, or fireworks!)
